PDF to Text

Extract all the text from a PDF as a plain-text or Markdown file.

Pull the words out of any PDF in one click. Choose plain text for a clean .txt file, or Markdown to keep a per-page structure with headings. The extracted text preserves reading order line by line, ready to paste into an editor, feed to another tool, or search.

Extraction runs entirely in your browser using the same text engine that renders the page previews — your PDF is never uploaded, so it works on confidential documents too.

How it works

  1. 1Select or drag in your file
  2. 2Choose your options and click “PDF to Text”
  3. 3Download the result — everything ran in your browser

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the TXT and Markdown output?

Plain text gives you the raw text of every page separated by blank lines. Markdown adds a document title and a “## Page N” heading before each page, which is handy for notes and docs.

Will it read text from a scanned PDF?

Only if the scan already has a text layer (for example, one made searchable with OCR). A pure image scan has no extractable text — run it through the OCR PDF tool first.

Is my PDF uploaded to extract the text?

No. Your file is processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript — it is never uploaded to a server, so nothing can be stored, leaked, or read by anyone else.
